Glastonbury has four electoral wards – St Benedict’s, St Edmund’s, St John’s & St Mary’s – with four seats in each ward forming a Town Council of sixteen members.

Somerset Council is the Unitary Authority for Glastonbury. Somerset Council replaced the former Somerset County Council and the former Mendip District Council, assuming responsibility for a wide range of services including, benefits, bins, care for adults and children, Council Tax, Environmental Health, housing, libraries, planning, highways, and roads.
