Council & Committees

Glastonbury Town Council is the first-tier of Local Government for Glastonbury. It is made up of 16 elected councillors, four from four wards in the town. The Council is structured with a number of committees in order to conduct its business efficiently, and harness the interests and specialisms of its councillors and officers. 

The Full Council considers and makes decisions relating to topics that affect the whole Council, that have a wider effect on the town of Glastonbury, and recommendations from other Committees.
This Committee makes decisions in relation to the Town Council’s properties, assets, and improvements to the Town of Glastonbury including footpaths.
This Committee makes decisions in relation to the Town Council’s Financial Procedures, grants for local organisations, and recommends the annual budget to Full Council.
This Committee makes decisions in relation to the Town Council’s staff.
This Committee considers planning applications referred to the Town Council as a ‘statutory consultee’ and makes recommendations to Somerset Council for consideration.
This Committee makes decisions in relation to the town’s floral displays, the annual entry into the “South West in Bloom” competition and grants to benefit the town’s floral displays or local horticulture.
This Committee makes decisions in relation to the Town Council’s Climate and Ecological Emergency declarations, and the Town Council’s Emergency Plan.
This Sub-Committee makes decisions in relation to the Town Council’s Town Deal project: the St. Dunstan’s House Community Health and Wellbeing Centre.
This Committee makes decisions in relation to youth services for Glastonbury commissioned by the Town Council and grants specifically to benefit young people.
This Committee considers how to reduce the impact of the A361 on Glastonbury and decides what recommendations are made for its improvement to relevant authorities on behalf of the Town Council.
This Advisory Committee considers matters relating to UNESCO World Heritage Status and makes recommendations for consideration.
This Advisory Committee considers matters in relation to the town’s Neighbourhood Plan and makes recommendations for consideration.
This Advisory Committee considers matters in relation to the Town Council’s Climate & Ecological Emergencies and makes recommendations for consideration.
This Advisory Committee considers the broad topics of “Arts”, “Culture” and “Events” in relation to Glastonbury & the Town Council, and makes recommendations for consideration.
This Advisory Committee considers matters relating to the Annual Frost Fayre event and makes recommendations for consideration.
This multi-agency Advisory Committee considers matters in relation to reducing Anti-Social Behaviour and Crime in Glastonbury’s Town Centre and makes recommendations for consideration.
