what's the plan?

Building a Sustainable Future

The Neighbourhood Plan recognises that climate change presents one of the greatest long-term challenges facing communities everywhere. Glastonbury aims to become a more sustainable, resilient and low-carbon town.

What are we trying to do?

To support the transition to a low-carbon economy and reduce the environmental impact of future development.

Why is it important?

Climate change affects every aspect of daily life, from energy use and transport to flooding and environmental resilience. Responding now can help reduce future risks whilst creating a healthier and more sustainable community.

WHAT'S THE FOCUS?

The Plan seeks to:

  • Encourage renewable and low-carbon energy
  • Support energy-efficient homes and buildings
  • Promote local employment and home working
  • Encourage walking and cycling
  • Reduce dependence on car travel where possible
  • Support local businesses and local supply chains
  • Improve resilience to future environmental challenges
  • Encourage sustainable design and construction

What would success look like?

A town that produces less carbon, uses energy more efficiently, and is better prepared for future environmental and economic challenges.
