Glastonbury’s landscape, green spaces, and wildlife contribute significantly to the town’s character and quality of life. The Environment section of the Neighbourhood Plan seeks to protect and enhance these valuable assets for future generations.
To preserve, safeguard, and enhance the distinctive landscape and environmental character of Glastonbury.
Residents consistently identify green spaces, trees, wildlife, and the surrounding landscape as some of the town’s most valued features.

Without protection, these assets can gradually be lost through piecemeal development and environmental decline.
The Plan seeks to:
A greener Glastonbury where nature is protected, biodiversity is enhanced, and future development strengthens the natural environment rather than diminishing it.
The Glastonbury Neighbourhood Plan sets out a community-led vision for how the town should grow and develop between now and 2040.
Protecting green spaces, biodiversity, trees, orchards, and wildlife habitats.
Supporting renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, and encouraging sustainable travel.
Supporting local businesses, tourism, enterprise, and town centre vitality.
The final stage of this process is a referendum. The Town Council and planning authority are trying to align that with the next elections in May 2027.
