Glastonbury Town Council has released the report prepared by its Public Working Group alongside an independent consultant’s scoping study exploring the potential for Glastonbury to seek UNESCO World Heritage Status.

These documents form part of the Council’s initial stage of considering whether a future World Heritage nomination could be appropriate for Glastonbury. The publication of the reports is intended to support transparency and to allow residents, local organisations, and other interested parties to read and consider the information gathered so far.

At this stage, the work represents an early scoping exercise rather than a formal nomination process. The studies outline key considerations, opportunities, and challenges that would need to be explored further should the Council decide to pursue the idea in the future.

The Council is keen for members of the public to have the opportunity to review these documents and to understand the work that has been undertaken to date as part of this initial assessment.

Glastonbury Town Council would like to thank the members of the Public Working Group for their time, expertise, and commitment in examining this topic. Their work has made an important contribution to the Council’s understanding of the potential implications and possibilities associated with World Heritage Status.

The Council especially wishes to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of the group members who have given their time to help inform this early stage of the process.

The Public Working Group report and the consultant’s scoping study are now available to download/read below.
