At the Full Council meeting on 14 January 2025, Glastonbury Town Council approved its budget for 2024-26 and set its precept demand at £1,056,000. This represents a modest increase of just 39 pence per week for a Band D property. With 76% of Glastonbury’s homes in Council Tax bands A to C, most residents will see an even smaller increase.

The decision to increase the precept by 6.88% was carefully considered and made with the aim of ensuring that vital local services are preserved and enhanced for the benefit of our community. The money raised through the precept stays within Glastonbury, directly supporting local projects and services.

In a further show of commitment to community support, the Town Council has increased the budget for community grants from £10,000 to £20,000 per year. This will provide much-needed funding to local groups and organisations that play a key role in the wellbeing of our residents.

The Council will continue to protect and maintain important services, including:

  • Cleaning and upkeep of St. John’s car park toilets
  • CCTV coverage in the Town Centre
  • Maintenance of open spaces
  • Ongoing improvements to play areas

Support is available for eligible households through Somerset Council’s Council Tax Reduction Scheme, ensuring that those who need it most can access assistance.

A detailed Precept Information Leaflet, which will provide more information on the budget and its allocation, will be distributed to all households in the coming months and shared online.
