Glastonbury Town Council is inviting residents to have their say on the future of the play area at Abbey Park.
View the designs in person: There will be an opportunity to view the designs in person on Wednesday 30 September at Glastonbury Town Hall, 10am – 6pm.
Earlier this year, the Council invited playground designers and manufacturers to submit proposals for a major redevelopment of the existing play area, with a project budget of up to £200,000. The brief called for an imaginative, inclusive and high-quality play space which reflects Glastonbury’s unique character, heritage, myths and landscape.
Rather than specifying a fixed collection of play equipment, designers were encouraged to develop original ideas specifically for Abbey Park. The brief asked them to consider adventurous and imaginative play, accessibility for children of different ages and abilities, natural play and landscaping, biodiversity, seating and places for families to gather. Designs must also respond sensitively to Abbey Park’s historic setting and retain its existing mature trees.
Nine design concepts have now been submitted for consideration, and you can explore each of them on the pages below. Each page includes an overall visualisation of the proposed play area, a plan showing the layout of the design, and a link to the company’s full tender submission for anyone who would like to explore the proposal in more detail.

Community feedback forms an important part of the selection process, accounting for 30% of the overall evaluation of the proposals. Please take some time to look through the designs before completing the consultation form.
