GLASTONBURY TOWN DEAL

Investing in Glastonbury’s Future

The Glastonbury Town Deal is one of the most significant investments in the town for generations, bringing £23.6 million of Government funding, managed by Somerset Council, to help deliver projects that will benefit residents, businesses and visitors for many years to come. Developed through the Town Investment Plan, the programme focuses on creating a healthier, more sustainable and prosperous future while celebrating the town’s unique heritage and identity.

The projects have been shaped through collaboration between local organisations, community groups, businesses and public bodies. Together they aim to improve public spaces, create opportunities for employment and enterprise, support health and wellbeing, strengthen the local economy and make Glastonbury an even better place to live, work and visit.

What is the Town Deal?

The Town Deal is part of the Government’s Towns Fund programme, which supports towns across England to deliver long-term regeneration projects. Glastonbury was one of 101 towns selected to receive funding, recognising both its importance as a historic market town and its potential for sustainable growth.

Rather than being a single project, the Town Deal is a collection of ambitious initiatives, each designed to contribute towards a shared vision for the town.

The Projects

The Town Deal includes a range of projects across Glastonbury, including:

  • Restoration of historic buildings for business, education and community use.
  • New community health and wellbeing facilities.
  • Improvements to sports and leisure provision.
  • Investment in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure.
  • Heritage conservation and improved public access.
  • Walking and cycling improvements.
  • Regenerative farming and local food initiatives.
  • Public realm improvements that strengthen links between key attractions and the town centre.

Many of these projects are now progressing through design, construction or delivery, and together represent a long-term investment in Glastonbury’s future.

Glastonbury Town Council’s Role

While the Town Deal programme is coordinated through Somerset Council and delivered by a range of partner organisations, Glastonbury Town Council has played an important role in supporting the programme, representing the interests of the local community and working with partners to help ensure the projects deliver lasting benefits for the town.

The Council continues to engage with residents, community organisations and project partners as schemes progress, helping to ensure that investment reflects local priorities and contributes positively to Glastonbury’s future.
