During her acceptance speech, Cllr Zoe Price said it was a huge privilege to be asked to undertake the responsibility of First Citizen of Glastonbury, and she promised to continue serving the community with openness, kindness, respect, and a willingness to collaborate. Cllr Price also shared that, during her mayoral year, her focus will be on the themes of co-operation, kindness, and community, with a particular emphasis on including children and young people.
Cllr Price revealed that she has chosen to support the Sacred Birthing Centre, Mamma Village, and Children’s World as her mayoral charities, and she will share further information about these organisations at upcoming council meetings.
We are also pleased to share that Danu Forrest will serve as the Mayor’s Chaplain.
The Mayor is elected each year at the Annual Town Council meeting which is held in May. The Mayor has two roles, as Chair of the Town Council and Civic Ambassador for the town. It is a role steeped in tradition and ceremony.
There are many engagements undertaken by the Mayor in which they act as a link between the various groups and organisations and the town. The Mayor can share the views and concerns of the community with the Council. The Mayor can also take the Council’s message out into the community and work towards achieving the Council’s commitment to encouraging and fostering positive working relationships between the council and other organisations and individuals working and living in the community.
In addition, we warmly welcome Cllr Lokabandhu as Deputy Mayor for the coming year.
