The council, which manages several key public venues and open spaces across Glastonbury, is seeking an applicant to join its operational team in a role that will support day-to-day maintenance, community events and visitor services.
The permanent post offers a starting salary of £25,989 per year (NJC SCP 6), based on a 37-hour working week. The role includes a benefits package featuring membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, flexible working arrangements, 23 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, and free parking on working days.

Supporting the town’s public spaces and events
The Community Services Officer will play a key role in maintaining some of the town’s best-known green spaces and public facilities. Duties include inspecting and maintaining locations such as Jubilee Park, Fishers Hill Recreation Ground and the town cemetery, as well as carrying out grass cutting, vegetation management and general upkeep.
The role also involves cleaning and maintaining council-owned buildings including the Town Hall and St Edmunds Hall, setting up for meetings and functions, and supporting major community events such as the annual Frost Fayre and the award-winning Glastonbury in Bloom.
Much of the work will be outdoors, with the officer travelling between sites in council vehicles and working occasionally in the evenings or at weekends on a rota basis.
A town with global appeal
The recruitment comes as the council continues to manage the demands of a town that attracts around 750,000 visitors each year. Known for its rich spiritual and cultural heritage and iconic landmarks such as Glastonbury Tor, the town draws visitors from across the world.
According to the council, the role is vital to ensuring the town remains welcoming for residents and tourists alike, while supporting ongoing environmental commitments including a target of carbon neutrality by 2030.
