Major A361 Roadworks this Summer

There are extensive drainage works required on the A361 outside of Millfield Preparatory School, between Glastonbury and Shepton Mallet. The works require the road to be closed for a prolonged duration. Due to the impact these works would have on schools, this means the works will need to take place during the school holidays. 

The A361 will be closed from 28 July until 22 August. The closure will be in place 24hrs a day, though if it is possible to reopen at weekends it will be. The road will be open on the weekend of 9^thand 10^th of August for the Glastonbury Extravaganza event. We cannot guarantee that the road will be open on Sunday 17^th August and our Events Team is liaising with the organisers of the Mid Somerset Show to ensure attendees are aware. 

While the road is closed a signed diversion will be in place via Wells on the A39 and A371. Attached is a copy.

While the above is in place, Wales & West Utilities will also be undertaking works to replace the gas main on the A361 Fishers Hill between 11 August and 1 September under multi-way temporary traffic signals (extents attached). For the period of 11^th to 22^nd August, both of the above works will be in place at the same time. This may appear as a clash of works, however the closure of the A361 means less traffic flow from that direction. This will reduce the time vehicles have to wait at the traffic signals, which in turn should help to prevent rat running along routes such as Chilkwell Street.
