Blooming Fantastic news for Glastonbury!

After Glastonbury in Bloom’s best ever year in 2023’s Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) ‘South West in Bloom’ competition, Glastonbury has been accepted as a national finalist for the RHS ‘Britain in Bloom’ Competition for 2024!

In 2023 the town’s floral displays brightened the town from May to October and won the prestigious Preece Cup for our population category, the Abbiss Cup for best Horticultural Display on a Municipal building (Glastonbury Town Hall) and the Sargent Trophy for outstanding effort and contribution from a main competition entry.

Glastonbury in Bloom will go up against Todmorden (Yorkshire), Upton (South), Ainsdale (North West) and Forres (Scotland) within the ‘town’ category of the contest run by the RHS. Glastonbury will be judged on its “commitment to improving the local environment, community engagement and horticultural excellence”.

2024’s colour scheme reflects the Town Council crest – blues, golds, yellows, whites and silvers, to commemorate 50 years since the Town Council we know today was created, and our entry to Britain in Bloom will be in memory of the late Alan Gloak MBE who started “Glastonbury in Bloom” and sadly passed away on 29 December 2023.

This year is Britain in Bloom’s 60th anniversary, and the theme of friendship has been chosen “to highlight the way in which community gardening can bring people together and enrich lives”.

As always we are looking for volunteers to help us with preparation and maintaining our floral displays.  If you are interested and can spare some time please contact the Glastonbury in Bloom Committee Clerk, Sarah Marks via email sarahm@glastonbury.gov.uk or 01458 831 769.

May Glastonbury (and its award-winning floral displays) Flourish!
