Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP) ACTIVE in Mendip

Safe and warm accommodation is available for rough sleepers. To access this service, please call 01749 341666. Spaces are limited, so phone as early as possible.

During periods of severe weather, emergency accommodation is provided for people sleeping rough in Mendip. This is known as Severe Weather Emergency Provision (SWEP).

If you are rough sleeping during periods of severe weather, please contact Mendip District Council on 0300 303 8588 to access the provision.

Mendip District Council’s Outreach Team will coordinate and provide emergency accommodation at times of severe weather to create safe spaces for people sleeping rough, to leave the streets and take shelter from harmful weather conditions.

SWEP will be opened when the temperature is forecast to be zero degrees or below for at least three consecutive nights. When we are planning to open SWEP, Mendip’s Outreach Team will make contact with people who are sleeping rough in the area, to encourage them to use the provision. Notification of SWEP will also be made online via Mendip District Council’s website and social media accounts.
