NOTICE OF VACANCY IN THE OFFICE OF TOWN COUNCILLOR
St Benedict’s Ward of the Parish of Glastonbury
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that following the resignation of Brian Outten a casual vacancy has arisen in the office of councillor for the Benedict’s Ward of the Parish of Glastonbury.
If, within 14 days* after the date of this notice, a request for an election to fill the said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer, Mendip District Council, Cannards Grave Road, Shepton Mallet, BA4 5BT by TEN electors for the said Ward, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by the Town Council by co-option.
(Signed)
Town Clerk
Dated : 27th January 2022
* In computing any period of time for this purpose the following must be disregarded:
- a Saturday or Sunday,
- Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Good Friday or a bank holiday, or
- a day appointed for public thanksgiving or mourning
NOTE: The vacancy in St Benedicts ward, if contested through an election, will mean that whoever wins will be a councillor and represent the ward for less than one month, as the position will be contested again on May 5th. The cost of an election, which is not insignificant, has to be born by the Town Council, which would have to be paid for ultimately by Glastonbury’s residents.
