The vivid colours in Glastonbury High Street in the form of the Flag Festival have been added to this week with the introduction of 40 hanging baskets. The statement through colour shows that Glastonbury is again open for business and welcomes visitors to experience the wonder of shopping in our vibrant community.
The Mayor, Cllr Jon Cousins has reallocated some of the funds that would have been used to host the Mayor’s Sunday parade and given £500 towards the cost of the baskets. Glastonbury Chamber of Commerce has match funded the project, provided sufficient funds to enable the purchase to complete. The annual SW in Bloom competition for which Glastonbury is a recent recipient of the Gold award is suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With uncertainty over social distancing regulations, a smaller, more concentrated display had been organised. The Town Council is delighted to partner with the Chamber of Commerce in getting this project delivered, which will brighten the High Street with flowers.
